The Economist magazine has a clever title and cover this week for its story on the state of the American auto industry (focus on GM), "Detroitosaurus Wrecks":


I think it's cool how they used car parts to construct the dinosaur. But as W just pointed out, what is the exhaust pipe supposed to be??

Zombie Attack!

This has been circulating around the internet. Apparently these road signs are incredibly easy to hack, and people have been taking advantage of this oversight to warn of the zombie apocalypse in Texas.

Yes it could be considered a public hazard (go ahead and question my faith in mankind, but I know someone out there took this seriously)... and is illegal... but... it's pretty hilarious

heartwarming

It is a little cliche of me, but the image of older couples in love really makes me happy. I see many cute white-haired couples holding hands here, and it is one of the sweetest, simplest things to see.

These were both taken in Amsterdam, which I will write about next.

I love Bear!

One day W and I were settling in to watch some Planet Earth. I forgot why, but we turned to the Discovery Channel where an interesting show was on. We watched as a ex British Special Forces guy braved the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the African desert, the Amazon Jungle, and... well basically we never watched Planet Earth and we watched four episodes of Man v. Wild straight.

I love Bear. I don't know how real the show is, but it is entertaining.

El Cucuy and Mandril.

These posters are EVERYWHERE. I think this is the first picture I have taken of a busstop ad-- that's how prevalent they are. They half amuse me, half frighten me. Especially that little monkey man, Mandril. I mean, WHAT is he doing??

I was thinking that maybe, if I understood Spanish, I would listen to them in the morning because they sure look like they are on something that I should be on. Look at that smile on El Cucuy. "EEE!" That's the noise I would make if I were smiling like that.

But really, I wouldn't. I hate waking up to loud music/noise. Scares the poo out of me and puts me in a bad mood. What works best is actually NPR. That mellow newscaster voice with the pleasant melodies in between talks. Discussing something interesting but not dense... something like mandrills. or not.

Torts Law is OVER

whoo hoo! it basically feels like finals are over. OK well still got lawyering skills to go, but I can seriously taste summer. Went to Father's Office in Santa Monica for the first time today-- what a funny name. I always got confused when my friends said they were going to go to "Father's Office" haha. Gotta admit their burgers are really good, although I don't like the vulture-style table waiting. Buuut good food and good beer is always a good time for me :)

Can't wait till Monday... for now, two elephants for you.

Planet Earth Clips, Pt I

So I started watching Planet Earth last night (bad idea?), and I decided to post clips of parts that I find especially funny or crazy (if I can find it on YouTube).

The good part starts in the middle. Holy crap that is so scary I think I would die of shock if I saw it in real life... or at least piss myself if I saw it at the IMAX. Thank goodness I saw it on my little laptop screen the first time... still very scary. and crazy. They are machines.

esp when it comes to certain things, like children's hw. remember when Maddox made fun of drawings kids made for their parents? hilarious.
i'm going to have a blast when i'm a parent. i will tell my kids all sorts of funny things to put on their hw and then laugh crazily while they think it's the right answer.

plus, the cat is really cute ^_^

the birds die of jealousy and the owl does not care

Went to the Getty Villa yesterday. It was nice, especially considering that it's free. It's a small museum, but apparently has one of the top Greek/Roman/Estrucan collections. I don't have the eye to tell, but my step-dad (who collects/trades antiques) thinks so too.

Besides the gardens, I did like their mosaic exhibition and their glass exhibition. But what REALLY motivated me to write about this was my favorite piece from the Tunisia mosaic exhibition (pics weren't allowed inside that particular exhibit so I took the picture in the book hahah).

You can click the second picture to read the description in the book, but basically, above the inscription in the top reads: "invidia rupuntur aves neque noctua curat" which may be translated to:

"the birds die of jealousy and the owl does not care."

I found that to be pretty hilarious. The owl is too regal 4 u! hahaha
