GX

I realized there are actually many times in my life that I think to myself "I'm glad I was born in the year I was born." As in, the timing in my life has been good. It can be the simplest thing. It usually is.

As a general matter, I think while I have the worst luck in gambling and getting lost, I have pretty good luck in life. Micro v. Macro. And I am grateful to have that feeling. I can be so negative sometimes.

Update: the above is not in reference to my "love" life.

Jellyfish

I really like jellyfish, as a purely visual matter. Their appearance and movements are very soothing and almost hypnotizing. These are from the Long Beach aquarium.

Jellyfish can be very dangerous and can hurt you, beware!

Around LA: LACMA Muse Concert Series & Tim Burton

LACMA launched its Muse concert series last week. Not to be confused with the band Muse, this is named after LACMA's membership group that offers various music, art, and performance events in addition to admission at LACMA. This series is open to everyone, and probably is hoping to emulate the success of Fridays off the 405 at the Getty, First Fridays at the NHM, etc. LACMA has a cute cafe and bar right in the middle of it's grounds where the band plays, and Chris Burden's Urban Light installation is a ready-made stage backdrop, so it's all set up well. The Tim Burton exhibit was also open from 9-11 pm, so for $20-$25 it was not bad at all. So long as crowds don't get any bigger (I'm looking at you, Artwalk), I'd definitely recommend it.

Pictures weren't allowed inside the exhibit but if you google Tim Burton Exhibit you'll find all you need. I really liked the exhibit, it is always interesting it see the chronicle of an artist's work. I found that while many artists change direction through the course of their careers, with distinctly different periods of work, Tim Burton seems to have a consistent underlying vein throughout with the cute & grotesque idea, even from when he started in school. There was so much material to go through, I think most people who have any interest in Tim Burton would be satisfied.

A defining moment of clarity happened this week but it is still difficult. 加油,加油。

Appreciation

Of what is free in life and that life is free.

Some fallen bougainvillea leaves on the side of a deserted road I was walking through last week. Randomly perfectly created gradient.

Spring and Flower

Met Alice in downtown for lunch. Wasn't really in the mood to socialize but I do like excuses to walk around and snap images of the area. These are from Spring and Flower (which has an almost comical cheerful ring to it):

Spring street

I like the positioning of the vent as a mole. Must have been intentional.

I love the graffiti in the same position, on each floor, similar but slightly varied. Not sure if this was intentional, maybe. This is what I would call mimic chaos. Still haven't been able to go to the MOCA street art exhibit but soon, soon...

Above three pictures are of Coffeebar. Great new space but read they aren't doing too well so I wanted to go support haha with my $12. Now there are two places to get a good burrata sandwich (other one is Spring Street bar a few doors down).

The door to The Falls. 626!

Flower street

Cosplayers going to Anime Expo. I wish there were cosplayers walking around downtown everyday. It would make life that much more interesting.

This is probably the prettiest thing about the Macy's Plaza, sadly. Sprinkler valves.

... it's fascinating to see the gradual changes around you. And to see for the first time the things that were always there.
